At Vivamus, we ended 2024 on a high with a triumphant performance at Hitchin Winter Festival, and all the seasonal cheer of our traditional Christmas concert. Plus, we enjoyed taking part in some recording activity, and a poignant spring concert.

So, where do we go from here? How can we possibly top the dizzying highs of 2024?

We believe our 2024 was so successful because we continue to embrace Vivamus’ truest principles. Into 2025 and beyond, we will keep pursuing the following.

Innovation

Our repertoire has expended to include ever more experimental works, plus unusual takes on classics. We sang film music for the first time in 2024, and want to keep performing different types of classical music. As a choir, we seek to keep making music which evolves and inspires – but we also retain commitment to excellence and honour for tradition at our core. As a choir, we’re about bringing together the known and the new.

Diversity

We want the music we sing to be diverse: from centuries-old to modern, written by male and female composers, in a variety of different styles. The choir itself is diverse, with a wealth of different attributes and experiences coming together in harmony. It’s our hope for Vivamus to keep making strides in diversity and inclusion, so we sing music for everyone, by everyone.

Collaboration

Some of the best performances we’ve delivered have depended on creative collaborations with others. We’re lucky to have Richard Hills, who wowed the audience with his organ skills at Christmas, as our accompanist and associate director. And our appearance at Hitchin Winter Festival was made such a triumph by the efforts of our collaborating soloists, orchestras, and local children’s choir. We wish to keep growing these relationships, and foster many more.

Sincerity

In Vivamus, we don’t just sing because we can. We sing because we deeply, fervently want to. We sing music we enjoy, in ways we enjoy it, because we want to spread that joy to all of you. Our rehearsals every week are the brightest spot in the week for many of us, because singing with others is the most wonderful happiness we know. We don’t sing for gain or out of obligation – we sing because we love it.

What comes next?

We will keep these values in our heart as we move forward. But just because we’re doing more of the same, don’t expect more of the same…

The more we sing, the more we learn and grow. With every year, Vivamus is evolving into a more confident choir, with even more challenging repertoire and captivating performances. We’re also working towards defining ourselves more clearly, with a hope to rebrand our look and feel in 2025.
