Our new look and feel

In our post welcoming in 2025, we mentioned that we were hoping to see a rebrand of Vivamus this year. We’re absolutely delighted to say that, thanks to hard work across the choir and from a fantastically talented designer, we have now revamped our look and feel.

Getting started

We’d never before had a distinct visual identity at Vivamus. We had a logo, but it was quite old and a bit confusing – not everyone understood that the abstract design was a portrayal of a person singing. We never had many definitive colours, fonts or styles associated with our brand, with our visual identity changing from concert to concert.

To solve this, we knew that in order to distill our identity into a brand, we needed to have a strong sense of identity in the first place. We conducted a survey across the choir, so the singers themselves could define who we are.

Quotes about Vivamus included:

  • “high-quality singing”
  • “serious music-making”
  • “commitment to excellence”
  • “wonderful group of people”
  • “sense of community”
  • “warm and supportive”
  • “relaxed atmosphere”

We used all the results, and have managed to sum up Vivamus in one sentence as:

“A welcoming chamber choir, united by a shared commitment to high standards of singing and musical complexity.”

Now that we had a stronger sense of who we are, the next step was to find a designer who could display this identity in a visual way.

Building a visual identity

We were incredibly lucky that our alto Orla was able to connect us with her dad, designer Stephen Mair. Stephen is an exceptionally creative mind who did an astonishing amount of work for us.

He created a new Vivamus logo, one which symbolises lots of different people uniting as one. The triangle in the middle is a ‘V’ for Vivamus, as well as representing a compass arrow, and the harmony in symmetry.

Stephen also suggested new colours and fonts, meaning our personality is now recognisable at a glance.

Thoughts from the designer

In all honesty, I can’t talk about it as well as Stephen himself – so we asked him to provide his thoughts on his work. Stephen said:

“As both a graphic designer and a music lover, I was excited when Vivamus approached me to refresh their branding. The project was an opportunity to visually express the joy, energy and harmony that this choir brings to people’s lives.

“My goal was to create a logo and visual identity that embodied that spirit, something contemporary yet timeless, approachable but also polished enough to reflect the group’s professionalism and talent.

“I drew inspiration from both the flowing nature of choral music and the sense of community that singing together fosters. The final design combines clean typography with a strong logomark depicting a star with lyrical curves that suggest movement and voice with the letter V in its centre. Simple, memorable and versatile, and ready to work across concert programmes, posters and social platforms.

“Beyond the core identity, I also designed supporting materials to give Vivamus a cohesive presence. From colour palettes and type treatments to layouts for concert promotions, the branding was built to unify the choir’s communications while allowing their creativity and energy to shine through.

“Working on this project was a privilege. Music has always been a part of my life and it was rewarding to channel that passion into design.

“Vivamus now has a brand identity that reflects their vibrancy and ambition and I’m excited to see it grow alongside their music.”

Evolving as a choir

We cannot thank Stephen enough for all his hard work in our visual refresh. We agree that it gives us a more cohesive identity, and adds to our confidence as we continue to deliver excellent concerts with a uniquely Vivamus feel.
